Katharine Butler Gallery ExhibitionWednesday December 12, 2007
December 12th, 2007 – January 5th, 2008
This exhibition features jewelry and digital photography by two exceptional artists. Sharyn Wolf’s childhood love of rock and bone has turned into an adult curiosity in creating these materials as a wearable art form. Texture, volume, light, and history have fueled her passion for searching out unusual beads and unusual stories about beads. In her words, “Wearing these beads is like wearing our history. They reflect our ongoing connection to those who have gone before us, to the earth, to what we, ourselves, will leave behind.” David Zapata’s art is a matter of recognizing and recording the fully formed composition. Through his digital photography he captures and reveals the dance between form and light – the interplay of light and shadow in illuminated shapes and textures which suggest the more subtle essence.

Line We Love: Sharyn WolfMonday June 25, 2007
As seen on: GenArtPulse
We’d known Sharyn Wolf for a while before we discovered that 1. She was an emerging jewelry designer and 2. She was about to have two of her necklaces featured in February’s Vogue. Now, we’re paying it forward, and sharing her collection of bold, exotic bijoux (made with unusual beads from around the world) with you. What makes these pieces so special is that each one has a back story; for Sharyn, it’s not just about making beautiful things. “Wearing these beads is like wearing our history,” she explains. “They reflect our ongoing connection to those who have gone before us, to the earth, to what we, ourselves, will leave behind.” Check out the entire collection and then email Sharyn to place your order or create a custom design! |

What to Wear Now: The Job InterviewTuesday May 15, 2007
As seen on Fashion Verbatim
You’ve just graduated or you’ve just quit your job because your Editor boss is a deranged b*tch and you’ve got an interview. If you’ve been dealt a bad hand and only secured a meeting with a Maxim Editor, screw this ensemble, wear a low-cut blouse and hope your monthly swelling is on your side. If you’re privileged enough to consider more altudinous regions, wear this. Favouring key proportion instead of colour – the high waist pant, the fullness of the sleeve, the timely toe shape – it says what it should without hoarding the interviewer’s memory. A one-of-a-kind necklace from Sharyn Wolf will make for a great conversation piece and draw attention to the lovely decolletage. Remember, nothing says, “I know fashion!” better than an emaciated collarbone. |

What to Wear Now: Sunday BrunchSunday April 22, 2007
As seen on Fashion Verbatim
Today was the TFBB (post to come on that) and it was such a beautiful day, that I thought I would do another Brunch outfit. Start with a sack dress with some weight to it (www.shopbop.com ), which you’ll pair with very Prada-looking sandals from Zappos (www.zappos.com ). As for accessories, Sharyn Wolf Jewelry is always a favourite and a large-brimmed hat protects the delicate face skin for the harmful rays of the sun and the harmful stars of jealous eyes. |

What to Wear Now: Easter WeekendFriday April 6, 2007
As seen on Fashion Verbatim
Since Easter is the most kaleidoscope-coloured holiday of all, I thought I’d step out of my grey-black-white world and delve into some colour. The results? A bright, neon (almost) clutch. Okay, not even close to those tacky Easter Eggs, but this is Adrian from Fashion Verbatim. Julian McDonald is down the hall. Pair the clutch with some classic slim jeans from Joe Fresh (www.joefreshstyle.ca) and a festive sequined Topshop top (www.topshop.com). As the weather is particularly volatile at this time, opt for a multi-purpose trench (www.zara.com). For accessories, a good MJ knock-off is better than chocolate, so wear these Nine West sandals (www.ninewest.com) and a chunky necklace from Sharyn Wolf. Happy Easter. |

Sharyn Wolf's Beaded PassionMonday January 1, 2007
In February, 2007, necklaces by Sharyn Wolf were featured in VOGUE Magazine (see: Taking Control of Your Look and Life: Parka Avenue). As reported on Fashion Verbatim
There is something unfortunately telling that the words “beaded” and “necklace” – when placed adjacently – likely conjure up images of annoying 15-year-olds in pink gypsy skirts and bug-eyed glasses. In other words, the worst of 2005. But the inspiring work of NY-based jewelry designer Sharyn Wolf highlights the pitfalls of those dated “What Not to Wear” doctrines. Here is some of her work in the “Parka Avenue” editorial, featuring model Gemma Ward, in the February 2007 issue of American Vogue. Paired with spring’s voluminous, albeit delightfully utilitarian, parkas, these exotic pieces assume an almost urban warrior feeling. But how great would this look with any of the tribal-inspired jumpsuits Mr. Elbaz churned out at Lanvin? This self-professed bead junkie creates these bold pieces in her Greenwich Village home, drawing inspiration from African art to ancient Alaskan culture. I contend her work satisfies the two most important criteria for investment jewelry: bold and unique. And as those navel-grazing, back-breaking $5 beaded necklaces have taught us, these are not necessarily the same thing. |
